Description

Abstract:
In this talk, I consider an old question about the status of evidence: is it a state of mind or a type of object? By looking at the importance of reusing and revisiting memories, we can see a feature of our use of evidence that is hard to accommodate on mental-state or propositional theories of evidence: evidence is not just used once, but reused and repurposed. In an analogy with the role of evidence in archeology, I build a new case for the evidence-as-object theory.
